Cosmetic dentist in Finchley — natural-looking smile improvements, planned carefully

Whether you are considering a subtle change or a broader smile plan, we begin with your oral health, your priorities and an honest conversation about what each option involves. No pressure, no promises we cannot keep.

Overview

What is cosmetic dentistry?

Cosmetic dentistry refers to elective dental treatments that are primarily aimed at improving the appearance of your teeth and smile. Unlike purely restorative work — which addresses function, pain or disease — cosmetic treatment focuses on aesthetics: colour, shape, alignment, size and overall harmony.

In practice, the boundary between cosmetic and restorative is often blurred. A porcelain crown placed on a broken tooth restores function and improves appearance simultaneously. Composite bonding can repair a chipped tooth and make it look better at the same time. At 110 Total Dentistry we do not treat cosmetic concerns as separate from overall dental health — we plan them together.

Cosmetic treatments available at our Finchley practice include teeth whitening, composite bonding, porcelain veneers, clear aligner orthodontics (Invisalign), dental implants for missing teeth, and ceramic crowns. Each is described in detail on its own dedicated page.

Who may benefit

  • Adults who are self-conscious about discoloured, stained or yellowing teeth
  • Patients with chips, cracks, worn edges or minor gaps
  • Those unhappy with the shape, size or proportions of their teeth
  • Patients with crowding, spacing or mild to moderate misalignment
  • Adults who have lost one or more teeth and want a permanent, natural-looking replacement
  • Patients with heavily filled, root-treated or discoloured teeth that cannot be improved with whitening alone

Suitability depends on your individual oral health. A full assessment is required before treatment is planned.

Important to know

Healthy teeth and gums are a prerequisite for cosmetic treatment. If decay, gum disease or other active problems are present, these are resolved first. We do not carry out elective cosmetic work on teeth that have untreated clinical concerns.

Our approach

What your cosmetic consultation at 110 Total Dentistry includes

We begin every cosmetic treatment plan with a thorough oral health check. Healthy gums and teeth are the foundation of any successful cosmetic treatment — if underlying concerns are present, these are addressed first, before cosmetic work is planned.

There is no obligation to proceed after your consultation. Our aim is to give you clear, honest information so you can decide in your own time.

  1. 1Comprehensive oral health assessment (decay, gum health, existing restorations)
  2. 2Professional photographs for planning and future reference
  3. 3Digital scans where clinically useful
  4. 4Discussion of your concerns, priorities and realistic outcomes
  5. 5Options explained with advantages, limitations and alternatives
  6. 6Staged treatment sequencing where multiple treatments are planned
  7. 7Written itemised estimate — no commitment required

Our philosophy

“Natural-looking, minimally invasive improvements where appropriate — and an honest discussion about what each option actually involves.”

We do not guide patients towards the most expensive option. We explain the trade-offs between invasiveness, durability, maintenance and cost so that each patient can make an informed decision that is right for them.

Complex cases

Where multiple treatments are involved — for example, orthodontics followed by whitening and bonding — we prepare a staged treatment plan with clear timings and costs for each phase. This allows you to plan and budget appropriately, and to pause between stages if needed.

Common questions

Cosmetic dentistry FAQs

Am I suitable for cosmetic dental treatment?

Cosmetic treatment is suitable for most adults with reasonable oral health. Healthy gums and decay-free teeth are a prerequisite — if underlying issues exist, these are addressed before any cosmetic work begins. At your consultation, your dentist will assess your suitability and advise candidly on which options are appropriate for your individual situation.

Can I combine cosmetic treatments?

Yes — many patients benefit from combining treatments, such as teeth whitening before composite bonding, or Invisalign followed by whitening once alignment is complete. The sequence in which treatments are carried out matters clinically, and your dentist will recommend the most logical and appropriate order. A staged plan with costs for each phase is provided in writing before any commitment is made.

How long do cosmetic dental results last?

Longevity varies considerably by treatment. Whitening results typically last months to a couple of years depending on diet, habits and maintenance. Composite bonding generally lasts several years with proper care. Porcelain veneers and crowns tend to last longer still with good oral hygiene and regular check-ups. Individual results vary and no specific lifespan can be guaranteed — your dentist will give you a realistic picture at consultation.

Does the sequence in which I have treatments matter?

Yes — sequencing is important. Whitening, for example, should be completed before shade-matched restorations such as bonding or veneers, because existing restorations do not change colour with bleaching. Orthodontic treatment such as Invisalign is generally completed before restorative cosmetic work. Where multiple treatments are planned, a clear written sequence with timings and costs is prepared for you.

Will cosmetic treatment be painful?

Most cosmetic procedures are carried out under local anaesthetic where any tooth preparation is involved, so discomfort during treatment is minimised. Non-invasive treatments such as whitening and Invisalign do not require anaesthetic. Some sensitivity after whitening is common and generally short-lived. Your dentist will discuss what to expect before each procedure.

How much does cosmetic dentistry cost at 110 Total Dentistry?

Costs vary by treatment. Indicative starting prices include: home whitening from £290, in-surgery whitening from £390, composite bonding from £110 per tooth, porcelain crowns from £490, Invisalign from £1,700, and dental implants from £1,900 (excluding crown, abutment and imaging). A written itemised estimate is provided at your consultation with no obligation to proceed.

Do I need a new patient examination before cosmetic treatment?

Yes. A new patient examination (£75) is required before any treatment can be planned. This ensures a thorough record of your dental health, identifies any underlying concerns that need to be resolved first, and forms the basis of a safe and appropriate cosmetic plan. If you are an existing patient with a current check-up, a separate new patient exam may not be needed — please call the practice to confirm.

Is my cosmetic treatment overseen by a qualified dentist?

All cosmetic treatment at 110 Total Dentistry is provided or overseen by qualified, GDC-registered dentists. Treatment plans are reviewed by Dr Kozhaya Assaker (GDC 176427), who holds a DDS and a Diploma in Oral Surgery and Implantology and has undertaken advanced training internationally. You are always welcome to ask about the qualifications and experience of the clinician treating you.
