More than a quick look at your teeth
A dental check-up is a comprehensive clinical assessment of your entire mouth — not just the surfaces of your teeth. During your appointment we look at your gums, soft tissues, bite, jaw joints, existing restorations and any area of concern you have raised. The goal is to build an accurate picture of your oral health so that, together, we can decide the most appropriate next steps.
Because every patient is different, we tailor the examination to your needs. If you have not visited a dentist for some time, or if you are registering for the first time, we take the time to understand your history before examining you.
Your new-patient examination (£75) includes:
- Full dental and medical history, including any medications
- Clinical examination of all teeth and existing restorations
- Periodontal (gum) health assessment with probing
- Soft tissue examination of lips, cheeks, tongue and palate
- Bite and jaw joint assessment
- Radiographs if clinically indicated (£10 per view)
- Open discussion of findings and treatment options
- Written treatment plan with itemised fees before any work is agreed
Routine examination (£45) for returning patients:
If you are already registered with us, your follow-up examination focuses on changes since your last visit — updating your gum charts, checking for new decay or wear, reviewing any ongoing treatment and setting your next recall interval. The lower fee reflects the existing baseline records we hold for you.
New to 110 Total Dentistry?
Your first visit is an opportunity to meet the team, voice any concerns and understand your dental health in full — without any obligation to proceed with treatment. We always provide a written plan before anything is agreed.
- ✓ No obligation at your first visit
- ✓ Written treatment plan with costs provided
- ✓ Nervous patients seen with extra time and care
- ✓ Languages: English, Arabic, French, Armenian, some Polish
What happens after your examination
Once the examination is complete, we go through our findings clearly and honestly. You receive a written treatment plan that lists any recommended treatments, their clinical urgency (routine, advisable or urgent) and the associated fees. Nothing proceeds until you have decided, in your own time, what you would like to go ahead with.
Children's examinations
Dental examinations for patients under 16 are currently offered free of charge. Please confirm eligibility when booking. We encourage parents to bring children for regular examinations so that good dental habits are established early.

Regular check-ups are for everyone
Dental examinations are not only for people with tooth pain or visible problems. Routine check-ups allow us to identify issues — such as early-stage decay, gum recession, enamel erosion or changes in soft tissue — before they become more complex and costly to address. Early intervention is almost always simpler, less invasive and less expensive than late treatment.
We particularly encourage you to register or re-register if you:
- Have not seen a dentist for more than a year
- Have noticed sensitivity, bleeding gums or a change in your bite
- Are starting a new dental treatment pathway (implants, orthodontics, etc.)
- Have a family history of gum disease or high decay risk
- Are pregnant or planning to become pregnant
- Are a nervous patient who has been avoiding dental care
Check-ups are equally important for patients who feel their teeth are perfectly healthy — many conditions develop silently, without pain, until they are more advanced.
Your check-up, step by step
- 1
Booking and registration
Call us on 020 7998 7657 or use the online booking form. New patients are asked to complete a short medical history form before their appointment to make the most of the time available.
- 2
Medical and dental history review
Your dentist reviews your health history, any current medications and any specific concerns you have raised. This context shapes the examination that follows.
- 3
Clinical examination
A systematic clinical assessment covers all teeth, your gum health (recorded through periodontal probing), soft tissues of the mouth and lips, your bite and the condition of any existing crowns, fillings or other restorations.
- 4
Radiographs (if recommended)
Where X-rays are clinically indicated — for example to check for interproximal (between-tooth) decay or assess bone levels — we explain our reasons before taking them. Each view is charged at £10.
- 5
Discussion of findings
We walk through the findings clearly, in plain language. We distinguish between areas to monitor, treatments that are advisable and anything that requires more prompt attention.
- 6
Written treatment plan
Before leaving, you receive a written treatment plan listing all recommended treatments, their fees and their priority. You are under no obligation to proceed on the day — take the plan away and contact us when you are ready.
Appointment duration
A new-patient examination typically takes 45–60 minutes. Routine check-up appointments for returning patients are generally 30–45 minutes. Please allow a little extra time if this is your first visit.
After your appointment
No special aftercare is needed following an examination. If X-rays were taken, there is no recovery period. Your written treatment plan and recall interval are recorded in your notes so you can refer to them at any time.
How to maintain your results
Attending check-ups at the interval recommended by your dentist, combined with consistent brushing, interdental cleaning and regular hygiene appointments, is the most effective way to preserve oral health over the long term.
Check-up fees
Fees verified August 2026. Prices are subject to change — please confirm current fees when booking. No treatment proceeds without a written estimate being provided and agreed first.
Dental check-up FAQs
How often should I have a dental check-up?
Recall intervals are individual. Patients with a history of gum disease or multiple restorations may benefit from more frequent reviews, while those with very stable, low-risk oral health may be suitable for longer intervals. Your dentist will advise the most appropriate recall period at the end of your appointment — it is not a fixed six months for everyone.
What is the difference between a new-patient examination and a routine examination?
A new-patient examination (£75) is more comprehensive because we are building your dental record from scratch. It includes a full dental and medical history, gum health charting, soft tissue assessment, bite evaluation and X-rays if clinically indicated. A routine examination (£45) for established patients builds on that existing baseline, focusing on changes since your last visit.
Will I need X-rays at my first appointment?
Radiographs are not taken automatically — they are recommended only when there is a clinical reason to do so, such as checking for decay between teeth, assessing bone levels or investigating an area of concern. Where X-rays are recommended, we explain why before taking them. Each view is charged at £10.
I am nervous about visiting the dentist. Can you help?
Many of our patients describe themselves as anxious about dental visits, and we are experienced in working at a pace that feels comfortable. Please let us know when you book — the team will ensure you have enough time, clear explanations at each step and the opportunity to ask questions. There is no pressure at any stage.
Are dental check-ups free for children under 16?
A child examination for patients under 16 is currently provided free of charge. Please confirm eligibility and any conditions when booking, as terms may be subject to change.
