Dental implants in Finchley to replace missing teeth
Dental implants can provide a stable, natural-looking way to replace one or more missing teeth. Your consultation will assess your oral health, bone structure, overall health, goals and suitable alternatives before any treatment is recommended.
At 110 Total Dentistry, implant treatment is placed and restored by Dr Kozhaya Assaker, who holds a Diploma in Oral Surgery and Implantology and has completed further specialist implant training in Switzerland, the USA and France.
From £1,900 per implant
Guide price for the implant fixture only — excludes crown, abutment, imaging and bone grafting where required. Full itemised estimate provided at consultation.
What is a dental implant and who may benefit?
A dental implant is a small titanium post — typically 3.5–5mm in diameter — that is placed surgically into the jawbone to act as an artificial tooth root. Over several weeks to months, the titanium integrates with the surrounding bone through a biological process called osseointegration. Once integration is confirmed, a custom-made crown is attached to the implant via a connecting component called an abutment.
The result is a restoration that can look, function and feel similar to a natural tooth. Unlike a denture, an implant-supported crown is fixed — it does not move when eating or speaking. Unlike a bridge, it does not require the preparation of adjacent teeth.
Implants may be suitable for adults with one or more missing teeth who have sufficient healthy jawbone (or who are suitable for bone grafting), maintain good oral hygiene, are in generally good health and are non-smokers or willing to stop. They are not suitable for everyone — a thorough clinical assessment is always required before implants are recommended.
Implant options we offer
- Single tooth implant — replaces one missing tooth without affecting adjacent teeth
- Multiple implants — replacing several missing teeth independently across the jaw
- Implant-supported bridge — two implants supporting a bridge to replace three or more consecutive missing teeth
- Implant-retained denture — implants that stabilise a full or partial denture, preventing movement during eating and speaking
Specific options confirmed at consultation based on your clinical assessment.

Implant vs alternatives — key differences
Dental implant
Surgically placed; integrates with bone; does not affect adjacent teeth; prevents bone resorption at the gap; requires surgery and healing time; longest treatment timeline; highest initial cost.
Fixed dental bridge
No surgery; fixed; shorter treatment time; requires preparation (crowning) of adjacent teeth; does not prevent bone resorption; crowning healthy adjacent teeth is irreversible.
Partial denture
No surgery; removable; lower initial cost; less stable than implant or bridge; bone resorption continues over time; may affect eating confidence.
All options will be discussed and compared at your consultation.
Your implant journey at 110 Total Dentistry
Implant treatment involves several distinct stages, each with its own timeline. We explain every stage clearly and provide a written estimate before you commit to anything.
Consultation and diagnostics
A thorough assessment of your oral health, gum condition and jawbone volume. This usually includes examination, periapical X-rays and, where needed, a CBCT (3D) scan. We discuss your treatment goals, health history, lifestyle factors and the full range of options available to you — including alternatives to implants.
Treatment planning
Using your diagnostic records, Dr Assaker creates a personalised treatment plan with a clear, itemised written estimate. He explains each stage, the expected timeline, what the healing process will involve and what aftercare is required — before you make any commitment.
Bone grafting (if needed)
Where jawbone volume is insufficient, bone grafting can rebuild the site to support an implant. This adds to the overall treatment timeline — typically several months for the graft to integrate before implant placement can proceed — but significantly extends who can benefit from implants.
Implant placement
The titanium implant fixture is placed into the prepared site in the jawbone under local anaesthetic. The surgical site is then closed. Most patients manage the post-operative period well with standard pain relief and return to normal activities within a day or two, though strenuous activity should be avoided for a short period.
Osseointegration
Over the following weeks to months, the implant gradually integrates with the surrounding bone — a process called osseointegration. This is the foundation of implant stability and cannot be rushed. In suitable cases, a temporary restoration may be provided during this period for aesthetic comfort. You will attend review appointments to monitor progress.
Crown placement and restoration
Once the implant has integrated successfully, an impression or digital scan is taken and a custom-made crown is manufactured to match the colour, shape and proportion of your natural teeth. The crown is attached to the implant via an abutment and adjusted to ensure a comfortable bite.
Long-term maintenance
Implants require the same daily care as natural teeth — twice-daily brushing and interdental cleaning — plus regular hygiene appointments. Peri-implantitis (bacterial infection around the implant) is the most common cause of late implant failure and is largely preventable with good hygiene and professional maintenance.
Transparent implant fees
Implant treatment involves several separately costed components. The guide price of from £1,900 per implant covers the implant fixture only — the titanium post that integrates with your jawbone. It does not include the crown (the visible restoration), the abutment, diagnostic imaging, bone grafting where required, or ongoing maintenance appointments.
At your consultation, Dr Assaker will provide a full itemised written estimate covering every element of your proposed treatment — with nothing hidden. You are under no obligation to proceed at the consultation stage.

What to consider before treatment
Implant surgery is a surgical procedure and carries risks that will be discussed fully at your consultation. These include: post-operative pain, swelling and bruising; risk of infection at the surgical site; nerve sensitivity or numbness (rare); implant failure to integrate; and sinus complications for upper jaw implants in some cases.
Longer-term, peri-implantitis — a bacterial infection of the tissue surrounding the implant — is the most common cause of late implant failure. It is directly linked to poor oral hygiene and is largely preventable with good home care and regular professional hygiene appointments.
- No guaranteed success rate — individual outcomes vary
- Smoking significantly increases the risk of implant failure
- Uncontrolled diabetes, certain medications and bone conditions affect suitability
- Regular hygiene appointments are essential — not optional — for long-term success
- Bone grafting adds to treatment timeline, cost and surgical complexity
Dental implant FAQs
Am I suitable for dental implants?
Suitability depends on the health of your gums, the volume and density of your jawbone, your general health and any medications you take. A detailed clinical assessment — including examination, X-rays and often a CBCT scan — will establish whether implants are appropriate for you. Factors such as smoking, uncontrolled diabetes, certain blood thinners and insufficient bone all affect treatment planning and will be discussed openly at your consultation.
How long does implant treatment take from start to finish?
Treatment timelines vary significantly between patients. A straightforward single implant in a patient with adequate bone may be completed in three to six months from placement to final crown. Cases requiring bone grafting, sinus lifts or multiple implants will take longer — sometimes twelve months or more. Your dentist will give you a realistic personalised timeline at consultation. We do not rush the osseointegration process.
What is included in the 'from £1,900' guide price?
The guide price of from £1,900 covers the titanium implant fixture only — the post that is placed in your jawbone. It excludes the crown (the visible tooth-shaped restoration), the abutment (the connector between implant and crown), diagnostic imaging such as a CBCT scan, bone grafting if required, and any other associated procedures. A full itemised written estimate is provided at your consultation before you commit to treatment.
Is the implant placement procedure painful?
The procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic, so you should not feel pain during placement. Some soreness, swelling and bruising in the days following surgery is normal and usually managed well with standard over-the-counter pain relief such as ibuprofen and paracetamol. Dr Assaker uses a minimally invasive surgical technique where clinically appropriate to minimise post-operative discomfort.
How long do dental implants last?
With good oral hygiene, regular professional maintenance and non-smoking, implants can function well for many years — in some cases for decades. However, implant longevity varies between individuals and cannot be guaranteed. Smoking, poor oral hygiene, uncontrolled systemic conditions and peri-implantitis (infection around the implant) all significantly shorten implant lifespan. Your dentist will discuss this realistically at consultation.
What if I do not have enough bone for an implant?
Insufficient bone is one of the most common reasons patients are told they cannot have implants elsewhere. However, bone grafting procedures can rebuild jawbone in many cases, allowing implants to be placed once healing is complete. The need for bone grafting adds to the cost, treatment time and surgical complexity. Dr Assaker will assess your bone volume and explain whether grafting is needed and what it would involve.
Can I have implants if I smoke?
Smoking significantly impairs healing, increases the risk of implant failure and raises the likelihood of peri-implantitis. It is a contraindication rather than an absolute barrier — we will discuss this honestly and without judgement. Stopping smoking before and after implant surgery substantially improves outcomes.
What are the alternatives to dental implants?
Alternatives include a fixed dental bridge — which spans the gap but requires crowning the adjacent healthy teeth — or a partial denture, which is removable. Both are effective solutions and may be more appropriate for some patients. Each has different cost, maintenance and longevity considerations. Your dentist will present a balanced comparison specific to your clinical situation at consultation, so you can make an informed choice.
